Nashville – Mike McWherter, Democratic candidate for governor, has been endorsed by the Tennessee Pipe
Trades (UA-TN), a labor organization representing workers in the plumbing and pipefitting industry through its
eight regional chapters across the state.
The UA-TN is part of the national United Association, which has more than 325,000 members throughout North
America and abroad.
UA-TN President Billy Borchert said his group has endorsed McWherter for governor because “we believe he’s
our best hope for helping our state get through these tough economic times.”
“Mike McWherter’s experience in creating good paying jobs, coupled with his compassion for Tennessee’s
working families, is what makes him the ideal candidate to be our next governor,” said Borchert. “It’s not
enough just to have good business sense; you have to also have a heart for working men and women who are
struggling to make ends meet, and you have to be committed to doing whatever it takes to help people get back
on their feet in this economy.”
In the last two governor’s races, UA-TN endorsed Phil Bredesen for governor.
“It’s important to us to have someone who will listen closely to the needs of working families, and who will
make the tough decisions when the time comes to put the people’s interests first,” said Borchert. “We believe
Mike McWherter will be that kind of leader.”
Today’s endorsement comes on the heels of a second statewide poll showing McWherter soundly leading the
Democratic field of candidates in the race for governor.
